When an apostille may be necessary

An apostille certifies the authenticity of the signature of the official who signed the document, the capacity in which that official acted, and when appropriate, the identity of the seal or stamp which the document bears.

For our international clients, an apostilled birth certificate and/or parentage judgment may be required by your home country in order for the authenticated document to be given full faith and credit.

Obtaining an apostille

Obtaining an apostille on a document is an easy process, but it make take some time unless you apply for the apostille in person at the Secretary of State's office in the state where your child was born.

If applying by mail, we can assist you; however, and as mentioned above, it may take some time before the apostille request is processed (2-3 weeks depending on the state).  That said, and once apostilled, the documents can be sent to your home.
